Verbit is thrilled to be providing subtitles for Manchester City FC during all its pre-match and half-time events at Etihad Stadium.
Manchester City is one of the first Premier League teams to introduce subtitles during its live matchday productions, making it easier for all fans – including those who are deaf or hand of hearing.
The live subtitles are created via Verbit’s Venue Live solution, which uses proprietary AI captioning technology to make live sports, concerts and events at stadiums, arenas and event centers more accessible.
Easily integrated into existing platforms, Venue Live streams captions and subtitles in more than 30 languages directly to scoreboards, ribbon boards and mobile devices. It’s trained on terms, names and phrases specific to the event – so, in the case of the Premier League, the highest level of English football, the engine is trained on, among other things, player names, statistics and any sponsor names that might be mentioned.
Manchester City officials said they’ve already received feedback from fans using the subtitles, showing that they have made a significant difference in their matchday experience.
The storied club was founded in 1880 (as St. Mark’s) and has won eight Premier League titles and one UEFA Champions League title since 2011. Man City routinely attracts more than 52,000 fans each game.
In addition to adding subtitles on match day, the club also tested the use of in-person British Sign Language at a recent Manchester City Women’s match.
